P2.5-M school building to rise in Sitio Cambudlot after Salugpongan closure

Davao de Oro Province–The Provincial Government of Davao de Oro through its “Bayanihan sa Paaralan” program officially kicked off the soon to rise school building worth PHP2.5 million in Sitio Cambudlot, Barangay San Miguel, Compostela on February 3, 2022.

A one (1) unit, two (2) classroom building has a 171.77 square meter floor area constructed using the 20% Development Funds of the province and estimated to be completed after 20 to 30 days. The local government hired two licensed teachers to facilitate the classes.

In a statement, Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy said that more schools will be built in sitios to address the problem of lack of schools in far-flung areas and provide a quality of education to the children.

“Kami sa gobyerno, we will not stop until ang mga lagyung sitio sa probinsya matukoran natog skwelahan aron mahatagan natog taas og kalidad nga edukasyon ang mga kabatan-onan”, Uy said.

Barangay Captain Joel S. Balili expressed gratitude to the government for bringing development projects to their area despite its remote location and distance from town proper.

Marife Gumera, 31, is grateful for the construction of a school building operated by the Department of Education (DepEd) where one of her children can benefit from it.

“Karon nasinati namo nga wala mi gipasagdan sa gobyerno, daghan kaayong salamat nga gitukoran namig skwelahan diriang dapita kay dako kining tabang sa among mga myembro og kabataan nga dili na kami magkalisod pag-adto sa layo nga skwelahan kay naa na dinhi sa duol og masiguro namo ang maayong kaugmaon sa among mga anak”, Gumera said.

Last January 14, 2022, a Salugpongan Ta’ Tanu Igkanogon Community Learning Center was demolished in the area through a resolution filed by the IP community after expressing concern that the Salugpongan might teach its young generation to revolt against the government.

Present during the ceremony were Mayor Lema Bolo, Vice-Mayor Levi Ebdao, SGOD Chief Ruben Reponte, RPSB of Philippine National Police, teachers from DepEd, municipal and barangay officials, and volunteer employees of the provincial government. (Rheafe Hortizano – PAO-IPRD, Photos by Jonie Cadiz)
