PWC of Davao partners with DOST-NRCP

A new partnership between the Philippine Women’s College (PWC) of Davao and the Department of Science and Technology-National Research Council of the Philippines.(DOST-NRCP) has been formally signed. The memorandum of agreement (MOA) is all about the Research and Development Leader.or.RDLead Program that assists higher education institutions (HEIs) to strengthens research capabilities.

According to.Prof. Vicente Antonio V. Pijano, PWC chancellor.and chief operating officer, “I would like.to thank you.for being real partners in the development of this institution. We are.not.a young institution. In fact, we are now celebrating our 69th year.

With the RDLead grant, the PWC and DOST-NRCP have become.partners in the continuing service and love for quality education,” Professor Pijano said.

Meanwhile, Dr. Marietta B. Sumagaysay, executive director of DOST-NRCP, straight from Manila explained the various programs of the institution.and mentioned the NSTEP-funded research of the PWC, aside from.the RDLead Program. She also invited interested individuals to.apply for NRCP membership.

Dr. Sumagaysay.also congratulated the PWC of Davao for the RDLead Program and thanked Chancellor Pijano for the support and commitment. She said that NRCP shall.be a partner.in PWC’s scientific productivity including.publications and utilization of research results.

Through the.RDLead Program, the PWC of Davao.has engaged the expertise of Dr. Casiana Blanca J. Villarino, through the recommendation of DOST-NRCP.as the RDLeader for PWC of Davao. In her almost month-long stay in Davao City, Dr. Villarino has conducted trainings on food technology-related topics.

Dr. Villarino currently works as.professsor at.the University of the Philippines-Diliman and technical consultant.at Monde Nissin Corp.

She finished her Doctor of Philosopy in Public Health from Curtin University, Western Australia and both her MS in Food Science and BS in Food Technology from UP-Diliman.

The MOA states “The RDLeader shall provide guidance and assistance to the HEI in strengthening its research capabilities the conduct.of various capacity-building initiatives, such as but not limited to trainings, crafting of research proposals, assessment of institutional capabilities, resources, and limitations, and mentoring of staff and other related personnel.

Dr. Villarino added that the RDLead Program has strengthened collaborations and instrumental in tapping the untapped resources through research proposal in HEIs. She thanked the wafm welcome and considered PWC her third home.
