Military terminates Election Duty Battalion

The 10th Infantry Division of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has terminated the Election Duty Battalion, a special unit that focuses on securing the May 9 national and local elections and the canvassing.

Captain Mark Anthony Tito, spokesperson of the 10th ID, said the battalion was already deactivated and its members have returned to their respective units.

The Election Duty Battalion was composed of 500 personnel from the different units of the 10th ID Division.

Tito also reported that the recent election was generally peaceful and orderly.

“Wala ta’y recorded na any election-related violence or incidents nga nahitabo during election day and the Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs) were prevented also from doing any atrocities. Hapsay ug malinawon gyud ang nahitabo na election,” he said over Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR).

Major General Nolasco Mempin, 10th ID commander, thanked the different security forces, especially the PNP counterparts Police Regional Office 11 (PRO 11), and other security forces like the Philippine Coast Guard for collaborating with the AFP.

“Gipangunahan sa atoang Comelec officials tungod kay nindot ang coordination layo pa lang na prepare na nato ug maayo maong nindot ang resulta sa atoang election,” Tito said.
