It was a very entertaining “Miting de Avance” highlighted with the jokes of vice presidential bet Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio and allusions of President Rodrigo Duterte.
The President showed his support to his son mayoral candidate Sebastian “Baste” Duterte as he attended the ‘Miting de Avance” of the Hugpong Ng Pagbabago – Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod (HNP-HTL) at the San Pedro Square in Davao City on Friday evening.
The President opened his message by thanking the Dabawenyos for making him a mayor, congressman, the vice mayor of Mayor Sara, and the 16th President of the country.
Guwapo pa kaayo akong silaw apan na – mao ni ang giingon sa Ecclesiastes 3, ‘there is a time for everything’,” he said.
The President explained that he came to campaign for his two sons, Baste and Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, who is seeking reelection as representative of Davao City’s First District.
The audience burst in laughter when the President looked for his daughter Mayor Sara.
“Ug ang akong anak nga babae. [Wala pud? Wala?] Anak… Malooy ang Ginuo, naa napod moy bise presidente,” the President said.
Mayor Sara, who was at the event earlier, said in a jest during her speech that she will leave the “Miting de Avance” before the President arrives.
Inday Sara unsa na pud gibuhat nimo?” she said.
It can be recalled that the President and his daughter were reportedly at odds during the filing of candidacy in November last year. However, the Palace denied the reports.
“Gusto ko na mahibalo mo nga dako kaayo ang among utang kabubut-on kaninyomg tanan mga Dabawenyo, mga Pilipino sa inyuhang pagmahal ug pagsuporta, paghigugma sa amoang pamilya,” the mayor said.
Another highlight of the event that made Dabawenyos happy was the meeting of Mayor Sara and Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go in the event. The two even took a selfie as shared by Go to Edge Davao, which garnered more than 12,000 views.
“Full support ko sa mga Duterte. Kung ano support ko sa tatay ganun din sa mga anak,” Go told Edge Davao when asked how he felt meeting Mayor Sara again after awhile.
It can be recalled that Go was caught in the middle of the reported rift between the father and daughter when he was asked by the President to run as president for the upcoming May 9 elections. In December last year, Go decided to withdraw in the presidential race.
Meanwhile, the President said he can’t interfere in government anymore, but like what he said during his campaign, he will remain a servant of the people.
Di man ko tingali makahilabot na og mag – di na nako ma – I cannot advise anymore each of my children. Naa na silay kaugalingong panghuna-huna. Ug usahay, tambagan nimo, magkadiperensiya lang mo. Naa na silay kaugalingong kinabuhi,” the President said.
The President also said that now that he won’t be President anymore, nobody can dictate what he will do. He added that he will go ride his motorcycle and roam around the city and search for drug peddlers.
