
The regional office of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC 11) announced on Monday their scheduled visits to telco sales and service outlets in Davao Region in line with the ongoing Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card registration starting February 1, 2023.
“We will visit on a regional basis sa mga tax sites sa mga telcos starting February 1. Si Smart nagsugod na. Starting February 1 mag start mi ug visitation para tagaan sila ug moral support as the frontliners in the SIM card registration,” said director Nelson Cañete of NTC 11 during Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM City Davao on Monday.
It has been 13 days since the start of the nationwide SIM card registration.
He said on the 10th day there were 15 million subscribers registered from the three telcos namely Smart, Globe, and DITO.
NTC is targeting to register 180 million SIM cards.
He also reiterated his reminder to the public of the deadline for SIM card registration on June 27, 2023, or face deactivation.
This is in line with the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of the SIM Card Registration Act on December 12, 2022, which aims to protect consumers from illegal activities such as scams, smishing, and other kinds of mobile phone and online fraud.
