Chief meteorological officer Lolit Vilanay of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration-Davao (PAGASA-Davao) advised the public on Friday to monitor weather conditions specially heavy rain showers experienced every now and then.
Vilanay urged the public to monitor the weather condition and watch for the advisories to be issued by PAGASA-Davao.
“Ato ng bantayan ug atong i-monitor ang mga gipagawas sa buhatan sa Regional PAGASA Services Division para sa heavy rainfall and thunderstorm warnings,” she said during Kapihan sa PIA at NCCC-VPlaza on Friday.
Vilanay also said two to five Tropical Cyclones (TC) are expected to develop and may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) from January to June this year based on PAGASA-Davao’s seasonal climate outlook for the period of January to June 2023.
“The tracks of TC kay padulong Visayas and Mindanao areas,” she said.
She also cautioned the public on Friday that a Low-Pressure Area (LPA) is expected to develop with impacts that may cause flooding and landslide in the Davao Region next week.
Vilanay said based on their Tropical Cyclone Threat Forecast the said LPA is less likely to develop into Tropical Depression (TD) but its track will traverse between Mindanao and Southern Visayas areas that will affect some areas of the Davao Region.
“Karong sunod semana naa ta’y Low Pressure Area ug expected siya less likely to develop into Tropical Depression but ang iyahang track will traverse between Mindanao and Southern Visayas areas. Affected ta ana. Expect ta next week because of the presence of LPA. Affected ang CARAGA Region including Davao Region kay ang iyahang cloud extensions nga nagsumpay sa LPA mao nay makaulan dinhi sa Davao Region that can cause impacts of flooding and landslide in the Davao Region,” she said.
On January 21, 2023, PAGASA-Davao issued rainfall advisory with moderate with occasionally heavy rains experienced over the municipalities of Prosperidad, San Fransisco, and Rosario in Agusan del Sur; municipalities of Caraga, Manay, and Tarragona; and Mati City in Davao Oriental; municipality of Claver in Surigao del Norte; municipalities of Carrascal, Cantilan, Madrid, Carmen, Lanuza, Cortes, Marihatag, SanAgustin, Lianga, Barobo, and Tagbina in Surigao del Sur; and Davao Occidental.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rains was experienced over the municipalities of Santiago, Cabadbaran, Kitcharao in Agusan del Norte; municipalities of Impasugong and Talakag in Bukidnon; municipalities of Kapalong, New Corella, and Tagum City in Davao del Norte; municipalities of Laak, Montevista, and New Bataan in Davao de Oro; municipalities of Balingasag, Lagonglong, Claveria, and Gingoog in Misamis Oriental; Dapitan City in Zamboanga del Norte; and municipalities of Sulu and Tawi-Tawi in Dinagat Islands.
