The provincial local government unit (PLGU) of Davao del Sur celebrated the first anniversary of the declaration of the province as insurgency-free held at the atrium of Gaisano Mall in Digos City on May 26 to May 28, 2023.

Former rebels, Indigenous People (IP), stakeholders, government agencies, and the 39th Infantry Battalion under the 1002nd Infantry Brigade joined the three-day Peace Fair with the theme “Davsuranon nga kalinaw, alang sa Maanyag nga Paraiso.”

The celebration was highlighted with film showing of documentaries related to the “Tupad Pangako Program,” which aimed to educate and entertain the public on how the PLGU of Davao del Sur initiated the peaceful and progressive reintegration of former rebels back into their respective communities.

The province also showcased its transformation from formerly conflict-affected into progressive and peaceful areas.

“The resilience of Davao del Sur made it possible for us to celebrate this spirit of insurgency-free. We cannot attain and sustain peace if we are not united and steadfast,” said Major General Jose Eriel Niembra, commander of 10th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army.

10ID reported that from 2016 to date, three Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs) previously operating in Davao del Sur were dismantled and 127 CTG members were neutralized.

The city government of Davao has also celebrated the first anniversary of Insurgency-Free Davao City on Wednesday.

Under Resolution No. 115-22, the City Council declared Davao City insurgency-free as of March 24, 2022.
