The regional office of the Department of Education (DepEd 11) is optimistic that the number of enrollees this School Year (SY) will go beyond the 1.4 million mark last school year.
Jenielito “Dodong” Atillo, spokesperson of DepEd 11, told media on Wednesday that as of August 29, DepEd 11 recorded a total of 1,236,229 enrollees for the School Year 2023-2023, which commenced on August 29, 2023.
Atillo said this is comprised of 623,854 boys and 612,375 girls.
“This is just 86.7% of the figure that we had last school year because we reached beyond 1.4 last school year. The data is continuously collected,” Atillo said during the AFP PNP Press Corps media briefing at the Royal Mandaya Hotel on Wednesday.
Atillo also announced a smooth opening of classes on Tuesday.
“We would like to thank our partners, the local government units (LGUs);,the Philippine National Police (PNP); and even the traffic sector for providing us with a very peaceful opening. Even the parents too, thank you very much and our learners,” he said.
He also urged the students to go to the schools and attend their classes.
“If you miss one session, you will miss a lot because classes have started,” he said.
Atillo said for this school year, classes for public schools will be face-to-face.
He said schools will only employ the blended modalities if there are natural or man-made calamities or events.
“This school year, for public schools in-person classes na gyud ta. For private schools, we give them the platitude and the elbow room to implement blended form because we found it very effective for them specially so if there are problems with respect to enrolment,” he said.
