28 Comelec checkpoints established in Davao Region

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has established 28 checkpoints in the Davao Region in preparation for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

The barangay and SK polls are slated for October 30, 2023.

According to Major Mark Anthony Tito, spokesperson of the Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division (10ID), 28 checkpoints were established by the joint Armed Forces of the Philippines-Philippine National Police (AFP-PNP) personnel on Monday.

“Atong Monday naga establish na ug Comelec checkpoints gipangunahan sa Comelec sa different municipalities, probinsiya ug region. Kauban ang atoang PNP counterparts,” Tito said during the AFP PNP Press Corps media briefing on Wednesday.

Tito added that it is also expected that more checkpoints will be established in preparation for the said elections.

Based on Comelec Resolution No. 3420, there shall at least be one Comelec checkpoint in each city or municipality. However, additional checkpoints may be established at the discretion of the highest-ranking official of the AFP or the PNP in the city or municipality.

Meanwhile, Tito said that the 10ID based in Mawab, Davao de Oro will be deploying at least 3,500 forces for the upcoming BSKE to ensure peace and order.

“In preparation sa atoang barangay and Sk elections, bago-o lang nahuman ang Regional Joint Security Control Center (RJSCC) kung diin naa tay ilatag na deployable forces sa 10ID but still dili pa na final. Naa tay 3,500 nga deployable forces coming from 10ID,” he said.
