The Davao City Police Office-Traffic Enforcement Unit (DCPO-TEU) bared on Thursday that road crash incidents in Davao City has surged with private vehicles topping the list of vehicles involved in the incidents.
Major Dexter Domingo, chief of TEU said during the AFP PNP Press Corps media briefing at the Royal Mandaya Hotel on Wednesday that based on the data of TEU from January to August this year, a total of 3,997 road crash incidents happened in the city and 7,008 vehicles were recorded involved wherein the top 3 are private vehicles at 34 percent, motorcycles at 15 percent, and trucks at 10 percent.
The main causes of the road crash were human error at 98 percent and vehicle defect at 2 percent. For the drivers’ error, majority was inattentive. The severity of the incidents were damaged to property at 84 percent, minor physical injury at 13 percent, serious physical injury at 2 percent, and homicide at 1 percent.
Domingo also cited the high-risk areas in Davao City where road crashes usually happen are the Carlos P. Garcia Street at 20 percent; MacArthur Highway at 11 percent; J.P Laurel at 5 percent; Quimpo Boulevard at 4 percent; and Panacan at 4 percent.
“Ganon kalaki ang binabantayan namin at ganon kahaba kasama na sa binabantayan natin ang truck, private vehicle, motorcycle even tricycles,” Domingo said.
Domingo also affirmed that there is no such thing as “killer highways” in Davao City.
He also said there are no road rage incidents in the city.
This is concerning the two vehicles reportedly collided in Barangay San Antonio Agdao in Davao City on Tuesday.
According to reports, the alleged collision between a car and a motorcycle ended in a fight between the driver and the rider.
“No road rage in Davao City. Ang nangyaring road rage na sinasabi doon sa Agdao is very remote and hindi natin matatawag na, nagkaroon nlang ng misunderstanding at hindi nagbibigayan,” Domingo said.
