The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) wants to dramatically reduce the use of papers from 594 reams a month to five reams monthly.

Through his Less Paper Ordinance, Councilor Bonz Andre Militar, chairperson on information technology of the 20th City Council, bared on Friday that the said ordinance is expected to be approved on the second reading next week during the session.

“Nakatutok gihapon ta sa goal sa atong mayor nga digitalization. Basin ma approve na on the second reading next week aron ma fully digitalization nata sa SP from 594 reams na papers per month mahimo na lang mi ug less than five reams every month,” he said over Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR).

Militar added that line agencies at the city hall will also go less paperless in the future.

“Ang line agencies ga start naman sa digitalization specially sa business related na mga transactions sa government. Naa nata’y online transactions,” he said.

In July this year, Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte highlighted this city’s digitalization initiatives during his first State of the City Address (SONA).

The mayor underscored more convenient methods to access government services in compliance with the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act such as the full digitalization of the Electronic Business Permits and Licensing System (e-BPLS) for business applications and renewal; online payment for real property tax; online application for community tax; Davao cockpit operations management system; and the recently launched online building-related permit system.

Militar said that Dabawenyos need not worry when it comes to data privacy as his ordinance Data Privacy Act was passed two sessions to protect the data.

“We created a technical working group to check our data here in Davao City so we are protected including the cloud servers here in Davao City,” he said.
