A former mayor of Cateel, Davao Oriental was shot and killed in broad daylight by unidentified gunman around 10:20 in the morning on Wednesday along Km. 5 Buhangin, Davao City.
Based on reports, the former mayor identified as Giselo Velasco Castillones, was shot inside his sports utility vehicle (SUV) that was parked in front of a fast food restaurant in Buhangin.
His driver, Junie Castro, also sustained gunshot wounds.
The victim was declared dead by the personnel of Central 911 while the driver was brought to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), who is currently in stable condition.
Based on the initial investigation, Castillones just done eating breakfast at a fast food chain in Buhangin and was about to leave on board a Mitsubishi Expander when he was shot by a male suspect, who after shooting him, boarded a motorcycle and sped off.
Capt. Hazel Tuazon, spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), said the police are conducting a follow-up investigation.
Based on the website of the Municipality of Cateel, Davao Oriental Castillones was elected vice mayor in 1982 and later assumed as mayor by law of succession from 1983 to 1986.
