Davao City Jail Warden Supt. Eric Lazaro bared on Wednesday that tight security measures in the facility are being intensified after methamphetamine hydrochloride also known as shabu worth over P200,000 was smuggled inside the facility on January 8, 2024.
“Mas pinaigting natin ang security measures following last January 8 kasi nakahuli tayo ng PDL while ongoing trial nakakuha tayo ng 31.9 grams of shabu worth more than P200,000. Inilagay sa kanyang puwet yung illegal drugs,” Lazaro said during the AFP PNP Press Corps media briefing at the Royal Mandaya Hotel on Wednesday.
Lazaro said PDLs are resorting to extraordinary measures to get illegal drugs into the jail as the price of substance doubled or tripled inside the facility.
Doon natin makikita na they are resorting to other measures para makapasok lang ang illegal drugs sa ating jail,” he said.
Lazaro explained that the drug problem inside the detention facilities is a nationwide concern.
