The Office of the Civil Defense 11 (OCD 11) plans to embark on a regional-wide dialogue series on flooding this month, according to an official.
Ednar G. Dayanghirang, regional director of OCD 11, told the media on Friday that the dialogue will gather mayors, experts, and national agencies to tackle challenges and solutions to the flooding in the Davao Region.
“Nagtuyok nako sa buong region, nakig istorya nako sa mga mayors and disaster officers, halos tanan munisipyo flooded. That is why we are now embarking karong February I hope I can realize it, a Regional Flooding Dialogue, a problem solving platform. This is a series of dialogue that will tackle local flooding issues birahon nato at a regional level ug mu-invite ta ug national leaders ug hisgutan how to solve the flooding in Davao Region per municipality,” Dayanghirang said during the Kapihan sa PIA at NCCC Victoria Plaza on Friday.
The flooding in some municipalities in Davao del Norte and Davao de Oro continues caused by the trough of a low-pressure area (LPA).
As of February 2, 2024, OCD 11 reported that six individuals died, seven were injured and one missing in Davao de Oro due to landslide and flooding.
“Ang design nako is, ang mayor who knows the place, siya ang magpresent sa problem, then he will recommend as well the solutions, ug hisgutan sa plenary sa dialogue sa mga experts, sa mga national agencies,” Dayanghirang said.
He added that he will also invite representatives from the religious sector and the academe.
He also said good practices from other regions will be discussed.
“Gikan ko sa Iloilo last week for a command conference. Ang Jaro City sauna mura ug Davao del Norte, grabe ang baha. Nakahimo sila ug JICA funded project nga ang idea ang agianan sa sapa, i-divert imbes padulong sa lungsod. Accordng to the OCD regional director of Region 6, its very effective. I also intend to invite the Jaro people and experts to come,” Dayanghirang said.
Dayanghirang added that after the dialogue, resolutions will be passed, and turned over to the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) for review. Once approved, they will be endorsed to the Regional Development Council 11 (RDC 11) to be incorporated into the development plans in the provinces, cities and national agencies.
