City upskills barangay tanods of District 1

More than 100 barangay tanods from the First District of Davao City underwent Barangay Peace and Order Seminar for Barangay Tanods at Rizal Park on Thursday.

Councilor Luna Acosta, chair of the Peace and Order Committee of the City Council, said on Wednesday that the training aims to enhance the skills of the barangay tanod in responding during disasters and crimes.

“We all know atong mga barangay tanod ug barangay police sila ang frontliners sa community ug sila pud ang atoang force multipliers whenever there is something going on sa atong barangay sila ang unang maka-respond. Para maka-respond sila ug tarong kinahanglan pud nila niining information kugn unsa gyud ang trabaho sa mga tanod, unsay buhaton nila if naay crime, unsay buhaton nila if naay natural disasters,” Acosta said during the AFP PNP Press Corps media briefing at The Royal Mandaya Hotel on Wednesday.

During the training, the tanods were taught how to report their accomplishments to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) where they belong.

Various city offices also shared inputs with the tanods during the activity.

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management gave input on Disaster Preparedness; the Davao City Police Office gave input on the Anti-Criminality Drive; and the Task Force Davao on the Culture of Security.

The tanods were also provided gear such as tanod uniforms, whistles, batons, and flashlights.
