Davao City Septage Management Program fully operational Q3 of 2024

An official of the Davao City Water District (DCWD) bared that the Davao City Septage Management Program is being eyed to be fully operational by the third quarter of this year.

“Part of the sanitation services under the Septage Management Program. Mag recon ta upon completion sa treatment facility that is being constructed right now. Ang target na maging fully operational by the third quarter of this year,” said Jovana Cresta Duhaylungsod, spokesperson of DCWD on Wednesday.

The Davao City Septage Management Program aims to establish an institutionalized wastewater management system in the city. It is also one of the government’s initiatives to address the rising coliform levels in the city’s bodies of water.

Under the Septage Management Program, the DCWD will be providing septic dislodging and collection services in residential areas. The collected waste will then be treated in a facility before being released back into open waters.

“Nagpa public hearing nata ana last year. We have proposed for P3.43 per cubic na singil. Naka tie up ni siya sa kunsumo nimo sa tubig. If you consume 10 cubic karong bulana, with the proposal that is times P3.43 so P34.30 ang additional,” Duhaylungsod said.

The proposal is still undergoing review with the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA).

Duhaylungsod said DCWD has a Rapid Assessment Team that will conduct a house-to-house survey to generate baseline data concerning the readiness of the customers and non-customers to accept this service.

“When you say readiness ang part sa program is dapat compliant si customer sa standard ni septic tank which is three chambers but according to the city tagaan nila ug lugway ang two chambers for the meantime and at the same time ang accessibility sa septic tank apil na sa atong tan-awon,” she said.

In May 2021, DCWD acquired a 3,300-square-meter patch of land at Malagamot Road, Indangan for Davao City’s first-ever Septage Treatment Plant.
