‘Doing Business with Malaysia’ unlocks new opportunities: Baste

Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte revealed that new opportunities abound for partnerships between Davao City and Malaysia through bolstered trade relations.

The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) under the trade promotion agency of the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI), kicked off the Doing Business with Malaysia: Construction and Building Materials Sector Seminar at DusitD2 in Davao City on Tuesday afternoon.

The event, which will run until March 15, 2024, will be highlighted with a business matching activity with the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) and several Malaysian companies.

In his message read by lawyer Jonah Presto, deputy chief of staff of the City Mayor’s Office (CMO), Duterte emphasized that the relationship of Davao City with Malaysia extends beyond geographical proximity and cultural similarities.

“We are connected by our shared aspirations and potentials. We are both responsible for ensuring the stability and competitiveness of our respective economies. And so, we thank MATRADE Manila for creating this avenue for Dabawenyos and Malaysians to seek new connections and forge people-to-people exchanges for business ventures,” the mayor said.

Duterte said that the city government of Davao is honored to be part of the seminar specifically with the construction and building materials sector.

It can be recalled that Malaysian Embassy in Manila Trade Commissioner Intan Zalani made a courtesy call with the mayor last February 22, 2024, to discuss MATRADE’s upcoming market immersion in Davao City.

MATRADE is a pivotal agency under MITI focusing on promoting Malaysia’s export industry.

MATRADE also plays a vital role in advancing the country’s global trade initiatives. With a focus on enhancing Malaysia’s international competitiveness, MATRADE offers an array of services and programs designed to assist Malaysian companies in penetrating global markets.
