City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) chief Dionisio Abude led the clearing operation of the streets at Bankerohan Public Market on Friday in preparation of the new traffic scheme starting June 1.
Abude said on Thursday that through a joint effort with the City Economic Enterprise and Ancillary Services Unit (ASU), the CTTMO came up with a solution for smooth movement of market goers, public utility vehicles, and private vehicles at Bankerohan Public Market.
The CTTMO created an operational plan for the 11 routes of PUJs passing through the Bankerohan area: Buhangin via J.P Laurel Ave., Route 2, Route 5, Route 6, Route 7, Route 9, Route 10, Route 10-A, Route 10-B, Langub, and Magtuod.
The CTTMO has also started setting up drop-off/pick-up points.
The CTTMO has already conducted meetings with the affected vendors of Bankerohan.
“Nag-umpisa mi sa pagplano last December pa kauban ang Barangay 5-A apil tung Barangay 8-A.
Abude assured that the affected vendors will be relocated as there are a total of 406 available slots in Bankerohan in the areas of Bankerohan Farmers Market Center, BFMC annex, Fruitasan Mo, Mallengke, Rasay Pavillion and Parking Larayan, MFish, Micro, Cloverleaf, Esmar Posadas Realty Corporation, and second-floor market building.
Abude said it is also the objective of the new traffic scheme the enforcement of the 1/3, 2/3 policy (a third of the sidewalk space occupied by a vendor, two-thirds for pedestrians).
Among the affected vendors are those at Posadas Street that will be relocated to the second floor of the wet market.
Abude said Posadas Street will be utilized as pay parking for four-wheel vehicles and motorcycles.
The new traffic scheme also aims to regulate the routes for pedicabs and trisikads.
The CTTMO has also started giving out leaflets to the PUJ drivers informing them to return to their original routes.
