The Department of Public Works and Highways 11 (DPWH 11), on Tuesday confirmed that the tunnels component of the Davao City Bypass Construction Project (DCBCP) is expected to be completed in September this year.
“I was told that 300 meters na lang ang atoang kinahanglan kabkabon from both sides and then the tunnels will be completed by September this year. The tunnels only make up 4.6 kilometers of the overall length,” Dean Ortiz, DPWH 11 spokesperson, said on the sidelines of the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas with DPWH 11 at the DPWH 11 Regional Office, Magsaysay Avenue, Davao City.
DCBCP is divided into six contract packages namely I-1, 1-2, I-3, II-1, II-2, and II-3. The scope of works under Package I-1 includes the construction of the four-lane road, three pairs of bridges, 12 box culverts (waterways), four intersections, two underpasses, two overpasses, and two tunnels.
As of April 25, 2024, DPWH is at 49.4301% accomplished for activities that include tunnel civil works and bridge pier constructions. Under Package 1, for the north portal-northbound with a total of 1,888 meters is at 84.29 percent accomplished while for the southbound with a total length of 1,716 meters is at 76.30% accomplished.
DCBCP is the implementation of a 45.5-kilometer bypass road that will begin in Barangay Sirawan, Toril, Davao City, and will end at Brgy. J.P Laurel, Panabo City.
The usual travel time between said points of one hour and 44 minutes via Maharlika Highway will be reduced to 49 minutes.
The project is expected to improve the transport logistics and mitigate congestion in Davao City thereby contributing to the economic and sound urban development of Davao City and the Davao Region.
