Josephine Martin, focal person of the Davao Food Terminal Complex (DFTC), on Monday said that they are proposing retail trading at DFTC in Daliao, Toril, Davao City.

The proposal meets the order of Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte declaring the Davao Food Terminal Complex (DFTC) in Daliao, Toril as the official wholesale facility for fruits and vegetables in Davao City.

Mayor Baste earlier signed Executive Order (EO) No. 42, Series of 2022, adopting the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of Ordinance No. 0823-21, Series of 2021 on September 15, 2022 which states that “the City of Davao recognizes the significant role of the Davao Food Terminal Complex (DFTC) as a facility where fruits and vegetables from producers and suppliers are unloaded and sold on a wholesale basis.”

Martin said over Davao City Disaster Radio(DCDR) that they observed DFTC’s potential for retail trading during the recently concluded weeklong Farmers and Fisherfolks Week held at DFTC.

“DFTC is supposedly a bagsakan so we proposed to the execom board of DFTC to try retail trading. Bale experiment tu siya nga event. It turned out nga naay mamalitay although for a start nga taga Daliao and taga Toril, but we have buyers from our friends, relatives, and from outside Toril District,” Martin said.

Martin said if the proposal is approved they are planning to set up the right wing of DFTC for retail and wholesale for the south wing.

“Ang DFTC has two wings so ang plano namo ang right wing will be retail and south wing will be for wholesale. Kung ma okay ni we will be maybe amending ordinance 0823 of 2021 declaring DFTC as solely bagsakan,” she said.

Meanwhile, the weeklong activity was participated by 23 exhibitors wherein majority of their displays were fruits and vegetables.
