Baste on VP Sara’s resignation from PBBM’s cabinet: I’m not surprised

Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte said on Friday night that he was not surprised that his sister, Vice President Sara Duterte, resigned as secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) and co-chair of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-Elcac).

However, the mayor did not give further details and urged the media to wait for the vice president to give her reasons for resigning.

“I’m not surprised na mi-resign siya. Hulaton na lang nato ang iyahang statement. Seguro I can give out my comment kung naa siya statement kay lisod kaayo mu-istorya ko kay bisan ako nga igsoon mi wala man ko kahibaw unsa gyud iyahang rason unless madunggan nato. Lisod kaayo mag speculate man gud karon,” the mayor said on the sidelines of the launching of Duaw Davao at DusitD2 in Davao City.

The mayor said due to the current political situation, which is a little bit shaky, he and his siblings, Davao City First District Representative Paolo “Pulong” Duterte and the vice president, see and talk to each other often now.

The mayor also said that this is also happening to him and their father, former president Rodrigo Duterte.

“Mas ganahan gani ko karon na medyo shaky ang pulitika kay mas close mi, nagakita mi. I’m kind of like enjoying this, kay ngano man maistorya istorya na nako akong mga igsoon, akong amahan,” the mayor said.

Meanwhile, Duterte led the launching of Davao City’s newest festival, Duaw Davao summer festival.

The event was graced by the Consular Corps of the Philippines, Consular Corps of Mindanao, and tourism stakeholders.

“All I want is for the Dabawenyos to enjoy new events for the city. We used to have three major events in the city and now we have four and it’s really good since the city is growing, still growing rapidly and more hectic, more stressful as we get more urbanized so we should leave some room in time for leisure and enjoyment so this is one of the events where we can relax and enjoy the city. It’s for everybody, everybody is welcome,” the mayor said in his message.

The summer festival, which will be held from June 20 to 30, 2024, will revolve around four components: Davao Tourism, the Feast of San Pedro, Pride Month, and Lifestyle and Leisure.

For Pride Month, there’s the Reyna ng Davao as one of the main activities for the festival.

History and urban tourism will also be highlighted as the city will be celebrating the 176th parochial fiesta of the San Pedro Cathedral. Music, Arts, Sports, Eco, and Agricultural Tourism activities, as well as various fairs and bazaars, are also slated for June.
