Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte assured her supporters that she is fine and urged the public to stay calm amidst attacks against her and her family.

The vice president, who reportedly had an operation on the lower part of her neck, was in Davao City on Wednesday to lead the city’s commemoration of the 126th Independence Day held at Rizal Park.

“Well, I’m okay. Maraming salamat sa birthday greetings. Dili nako maisa-isa magpasalamat sa tanan nga nag greet ug birthday greetings ug ilahang mga wishes na maayong panglawas and I am happy to be here in Davao City and I wish all Dabawenyos, unang una kalma lang ta ug ikaduha Happy Independence Day,” she said in an interview.

When asked by the media about her secret to being beautiful and sexy in the middle of criticisms from the opposition.

“Dapat guwapa gihapon. Pag gidaug daug mo paniguruhon na lang ninyo nga puwede mong mag two-piece,” she replied in jest.

The vice president clarified she does not know any information on the rumored suspension of her brother, Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte.

She also said that if there is such a paper regarding the mayor’s suspension, she urged the public to just wait for the legal actions to be done by the mayor.

“Wala koy nahibaw-an na information sa suspension ni Mayor Baste Duterte. Kung duna may ingon ana nga papel regarding sa suspension niya hulaton na lang nato and let us wait for kung unsa ang legal actions ni Mayor Baste Duterte,” the vice president said.

When asked about the status of Uniteam, she explained that it was just used as a tandem of her and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. during the 2022 elections. Now that the election is over, she thanked those who supported their tandem.

Meanwhile, the vice president said she is not yet speculating about the midterm elections.

“I do not speculate on the midterm elections right now kay particularly wala pa ang mga kandidato. Wala pa ko’y plans for midterm elections pero diri sa Davao naayos nato namo first quarter of this year,” she said.

She also said that the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod (HTL) will submit its political party in Davao City.

In her speech during the celebration, the vice president said that on Independence Day, Filipinos do not only celebrate the liberation but also place emphasis on the importance of remembering the adversities they have overcome and the ideals they fight for.

“Today, we are gathered to commemorate 126 years of sovereignty as well as to honor this great legacy left to us by our forefathers who displayed true courage, bravery, and patriotism. On Independence Day, we not only celebrate our liberation but also place emphasis on the importance of remembering the adversities we have overcome and the ideals we fight for. The freedom we experienced in the present is a result of the unyielding resolve of our ancestors to reclaim our right and to govern ourselves as a sovereign nation,” she said.

The 126th Independence Day carries the theme “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan.”
