The city government of Davao through the Davao City Disaster Council will be sending financial assistance to local government units (LGUs) in Luzon that were declared under state of calamity due to Typhoon Carina.
This was confirmed to Edge Davao by Harvey Lanticse, the head of the City Information Office of Davao.
Lanticse said the City Disaster Council is currently preparing the necessary requirements.
“Always man ready ang Davao City to assist. Ginabuhat na nato ni. It has been the practice of the city to extend assistance to calamity-stricken areas,” Lanticse said.
According to reports, as of July 24, 2024, at least least 32 people died, dozens injured, five reported missing, 1.3 million affected and more than 600,000 are displaced due to Typhoon Carina.
Meantime, the death toll from the monsoon rains intensified by typhoon Carina has climbed to 34, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Friday.
The figure is based on initial data from police field units as of 10 a.m., PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said.
Fajardo said the death toll was still subject for validation by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, which releases the official number of fatalities.
Monsoon rains exacerbated by the typhoon triggered floods in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon this week.
Metro Manila has declared a state of calamity to unlock additional funds for disaster response.
