The Davao Light and Power Company (Davao Light), together with the Aboitiz Foundation, signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the National Commission on Indigenous People 11 (NCIP 11), Department of Social Welfare and Development 11 (DSWD 11) and Department of Education 11 (DepEd 11) on Tuesday for a solar home system project for the Indigenous People (IP) families in Sitio Pegalongan, Malamba, Marilog District, Davao City.
The MOA aims to provide solar home kits to identified IP families under DSWD’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program(4Ps) whose children are enrolled in Pegalongan Elementary School at Sitio Pegalongan, Brgy. Malamba, Marilog District, Davao City.
Davao Light Reputation Enhancement Department Head Fermin Edillon said that the students in Sitio Pegalongan are using kerosene lamps while studying as there’s still has no electricity connection in the area.
It is expected that through the solar home kits, the project proponents hope that the learners will be able to finish their education for a better future.
“We see to it that the project will be given directly to the beneficiaries so ang among arrangement is dapat 4Ps siya. In as much as we want to give all IPs sa area, naa man gud ta’y limitations,” Edillon said.
He said Davao Light will be providing solar home kits to an initial 20 to 30 families.
