Councilor Jonard C. Dayap, chair of the Committee on Future Generation, announced on Tuesday that the Dabawenyo DCplinado Program will be integrated into the curriculum of the Department of Education 11 (DepEd 11).
The 20th City Council has approved an ordinance to integrate the program.
Dabawenyo DCplinado for the Future Generation, designated as Ordinance No.0552, Series of 2024, aims to instill moral responsibility, self-discipline, and respect for diversity among students.
Dayap said the program will be woven into Values Education, Araling Panlipunan, Makabayan, and Good Manners and Right Conduct (GMRC) subjects of the DepEd Matatag Curriculum.
“The Dabawenyo DCplinado Program curriculum integration in the city government of Davao, this program tends to recognize the values and discipline here in Davao City. This program aims to integrate the values concept of discipline for responsible citizenship in the basic education curriculum in the Department of Education of all schools in Davao City,” Dayap told the media.
Dayap said the ordinance outlines crucial objectives including cultivating moral responsibility among the youth, empowering them to educate for the common good, guiding them in their roles as environmental stewards, and promoting respect for all individuals, particularly marginalized communities.
“This program aims to guide our teachers on how they will be able to teach and educate our learners in terms of understanding the role of discipline and molding responsible law-abiding citizens in Davao City,” he said.
Dayap said a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with DepEd 11 will initiate the program with over 57,000 Grade 6 and Grade 10 learners.
He also said that there are plans to expand the program to private schools, higher education institutions, out-of-school youth, and barangays.
