The proposal for the establishment of a parking building in Davao City by the Davao City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC) has underwent a committee hearing at the Committee of Finance, Ways, Means, and Appropriations chaired by Councilor Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz.
Dalodo-Ortiz told Edge Davao that during the committee hearing last month, she required the Davao City Incentive Investment Promotion Center (DCCIPC) Board to a resolution of unity on what DCIPC wants as proposed.
“Naa na’y referral ana and that was proposed by the DCIPC pero naka-committee hearing mi but daghan pako ug gi-require na mga requiements from DCIPC and one of which is kailangan ang DCCIP Board may resolution talaga na magkaisa kung ano yung gusto ng DCIPC as proposed,” Dalodo-Ortiz said.
Dalodo-Ortiz said her committee will conduct a hearing again for the submission of the requirements.
Meanwhile, Christian Cambaya, unit head for Investor Assistance and Servicing of DCIPC, said presently, the biggest parking building registered in Davao City is the four-story parking building at Bormaheco Building along J.P. Laurel.
“That is the biggest parking nga na-register karon,” Cambaya said.
Cambaya said it is the vision of DCIPC to establish a big parking building in Davao City and this is the reason why DCIPC is proposing longer incentives for parking building investors in the city.
“We are proposing also to lengthen or increase the number of years for the incentive for parking. Currently, we also have four investors, but these are small parking areas na nag-signify nga gamiton ilang areas into a parking area. But our vision is actually for a big parking building gyud unta and that is why we are proposing for a longer incentive for that,” he said.
Cambaya also said that DCIPC is looking at a private-public partnership (PPP) modality for parking buildings.
He also cited past proposals such as converting the old City Engineers Office building into a 10-story building where the three-story is for commercial so they can recover from the investments and then the seven floors are for parking and offices of the city government of Davao.
“We are toying in the idea nga naa tay ingon ana, or looking for investors like that, and that is the reason why we are also proposing sa Sanggunian Panlungsod to amend the ordinance to make it attractive as well as the incentives for parking,” Cambaya said.
