Family cries justice for kin’s death after “mistakenly” killed by police

The family of R-jay Cahilog is calling for justice after he was “mistakenly” shot and killed by operatives of Tagum Police Station on August 9.

Based on the reports, Cahilog was shot by the Tagum police after he was reportedly “mistakenly” identified as a suspect in the killing of two women in Talisay Zafra, Tagum City, Davao del Norte last Friday evening.

Cahilog was at the scene to help rescue the two young women who were stabbed to death by a fellow tenant, Nelson Narbasa, who allegedly ran amuck inside a boarding house. Police report said that Cahilog was able to hack Narbasa, a security guard, with a machete knife. It was at this point that the police responded, they were able to shoot and kill Narbasa.

The responding policemen believed that Cahilog was involved in the crime as he was carrying a machete when they crossed paths with him.

According to some witnesses, Cahilog shouted to the police operatives not to shoot him because he was not involved in the incident and that he had a child.

However, the police operatives shot Cahilog twice.

Some witnesses were able to take videos of the incident and circulated them online.

The 22-year old Cahilog left a young son and his live-in partner.

Relatives of the victim said that he wanted to finish school through the Alternative Learning System (ALS) to be able to help his family.
