P1.08B approved investments in Davao City from Jan-July 2024

An official of the Davao City Investment Promotions Center (DCIPC) reported that Davao City recorded an approved investment of P1.08 billion from January to July 2024.

Christian Cambaya, head for Investor Assistance and Servicing of DCPIC, said on Friday that for this year, three companies availed of the city’s investment incentives.

Cambaya said these are Golden Señoritas, a banana chips manufacturing and exporter with an investment of P365 million; cold storage in Bunawan with a P706 million investment; and a Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) company with a P9.5 million investment.

“The Golden Señoritas is a banana manufacturing and labor-intensive siya. Five hectares ang iyang land area and naa siya existing plant and is planning to expand,” Cambaya said during the Business Matters media forum at Ayala Malls Abreeza.

Meanwhile, Cambaya said that dignitaries are also looking at opportunities in Davao City.

Recently, the Chargé d’Affaires and Interim of the British Embassy made a courtesy call to Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte on July 25, 2024, at Matina Enclaves Residences. Alistair White was accompanied by Noelle Agudelo and Anna Snowgale Rupa, both from the British Embassy in Manila.

DCIPC said that the mayor welcomed the idea of having the Embassy pilot projects and having Davao City as their ‘laboratory’, particularly for collaborations concerning rural settlers’ development and towards fostering dialogue on alternative politics and tourism.

Ambassador of the French Republic to the Philippines Marie Fontanel also recently paid a courtesy call to the mayor and exchanged ideas for the development of Davao City.

During the courtesy meeting, Fontanel and Duterte discussed the similarities between Paris and Davao City, such as both cities having an estimated population of 2 million and experiencing the same concerns that accompany city urbanization.

“Those two, it’s their first time to visit Davao City, just to say ‘hi’ and to meet Mayor Sebastian Baste Duterte and to look at opportunities in Davao City. We also presented kung unsa tung mga Preferred Investment Areas in Davao and support mechanisms,” Cambaya said.

Cambaya said there are no investments translated yet in the visits of these dignitaries.
