Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte said he will support lawyer Vic Rodriguez, the former executive secretary of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., if the latter will decide to run in the 2025 midterm elections.
It can be recalled that the mayor and Rodriguez recently met in Davao City and Duterte shared some of the things discussed during their meeting.
“Miingon siya nga murag mudagan siya, wala man gyud siya miingon na mudagan siya or basig mudagan siya. Giunahan lang nako siya na sige kung mudagan ka musuporta ko nimo. Ako musuporta ko niya kay tungod nagsugod ang Maisug (rally) tua na siya didto until now nga naa lang gihapon siya, wala mausab ang iyahang mga gipangsulti ug iyahang mga sintemyento towards the current administration. Sa nakita nako sa iyaha sukad atong Enero, labi na sa ingon ani nga sitwasyon nga medyo ang atong gi-istoryahan kay naay gahum ug lisod pud kung kontrahon nimo, puwede ka binuangan kay naa man power, naay kuwarta. Kung ipadayon na niyang na plataporma niya ug maoy himoon niyang panulti pag-abot sa kampanya, makapa abri sa mga hunahuna sa mga tawo, suportahan ta na,” Duterte said during his podcast “Basta Dabawenyo” aired on Thursday evening.
Rodriguez was among the prominent attendees who strongly criticized the President in the first Duterte-led Hakbang ng Maisug Prayer Rally held in Davao City in January this year.
“Dili na lalim na muadto ka ug usa ka lugar, dili pa gyud imoha, tagaan ka ug entablado, musaka ka unya manulti ka. It takes guts na muingon ana labi na ang imong ginakontra dako,” the mayor said.
The mayor emphasized that a politician’s commitment and word of honor are important things to him.
“Importante sa akoa ang commitment sa usa ka tawo labi na ug mutuman ka sa sabot, dili ka magbinuang, dili nimo usbon ang imong istorya, naa kay palabra de honor or word of honor. Importante na nga makita nako sa usa ka tawo, labi na sa usa ka pulitiko,” Duterte said.
Duterte said sometimes it hurts when you believe that the person in front of you is real to you, but it’s not.
Meanwhile, Duterte said he is still yet to finalize his plan for the 2025 midterm elections.
“Gahuna huna pako. Kung asa ko ibutang sa Ginoo didto ra ko. Bisan pa ug konsehal ko, barangay captain ko. Ganahan ko sa pulitika kay makabuot buot ka gamay, makatimon ka sa direction sa inyong lugar, apil ka didto sa mga tawo nga muingon kung unsay dapat mahitabo, okay nako ana. Senador, bisan unsa dinha mayor, konsehal, kapitan,” he said.
