Councilor Bonz Andre Militar on Tuesday said that his committee is accelerating the establishment of the Davao City Public Internet Center (DCPIC).
Militar said the design was already approved by Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte and that he is currently finalizing the details for inclusion in the 2025 annual budget.
He said he is just waiting for the cost estimate from the City Engineer’s Office.
“Nahuman na ang design ani ug gi approve napud ni mayor, nagpa cost estimate nako sa City Engineer’s Office. It’s good to go na. I think masulod ni siya sa annual budget next year. Naa pa mi sa committee hearing level karon ug amoa sa ning i-finalize since naa nay go signal ni mayor,”said the chairperson of the Committee on Information and Technology during the Aprubado sa Konseho media briefing.
The Public Internet Center will be the first in Mindanao.
Militar said the center, located within the People’s Park, will have 60 computers on the second floor and six units on the ground floor reserved for persons with physical disabilities.
“Ang sa gawas (center), wifi area pud sya like a wifi park,” Militar said.
According to Militar, the future center will serve as an extension of the Davao City Library and Information Center (DCLIC) which has become crowded with employees, students, and researchers.
“Magamit pud ni ang center for training. Amoa gyud ning i-push kay usa ni nga tabang sa mga Dabawenyos nga libre na ang ilang paggamit ug computer for research and assignments,” he said.
