Bucana Bridge eyed to be completed by end of 2025

Department of Public Works and Highways 11 (DPWH 11) spokesperson Dean Ortiz announced on Wednesday that the Bucana Bridge is being eyed to be completed on November 29, 2025.

Bucana Bridge is a component of the Davao Coastal Bypass Road Project that will connect Times Beach area to Bucana area.

Ortiz reported that currently, the construction of the bridge is at 65.63% accomplished.

“We plan to complete everything by November 29, 2025,” he said during Wednesdays @ Habi at Kape media forum.

Ortiz said construction of the pylon, which is the main structure of the bridge, including the girders is ongoing.

He also assured that construction will be expedited since they will be using the balance cantilever method like what they did in the coastal road’s Matina Aplaya Bridge.

“Ang gagawin natin na method is the same as the one we did at Matina Aplaya Bridge which is the balance cantilliver method. Assuming that ito yung gagawin natin na method mas mabilis ang paggawa ng tulay,” he said.

Ortiz said the construction of the bridge is funded by the China government under the Official Development Assistance (ODA).

Meanwhile, Ortiz also reported the accomplishment in the construction of the coastal bypass road project. He said that the ongoing construction is around 2.424 kilometers and the one that has not yet started is around .447 kilometer including the span of the Bucana Bridge which is .766 kilometer.

He also shared that out of 15.674 kilometers, 12.034 kilometers have already been completed and the others are not yet passable awaiting the completion of the Bucana Bridge.

The construction of the coastal road project began in 2017 and according to Ortiz DPWH already released P28.5 billion including the P3.1 billion that was also released for the construction of the Bucana Bridge.

“What remains to be implemented are more or less there are seven ongoing projects right now kasi the Davao City Bypass Coastal Road Project has been divided into several packages. What we are trying to get here is this is section by section, so it’s divided into several projects,” he said.

Ortiz also said DPWH has already requested additional funding for the completion of the entire stretch of the coastal road.

The project has a total length of 17.33 kilometers and is divided into four segments — Bago Aplaya to Tulip Drive, Tulip Drive to Roxas Avenue, Roxas Avenue to Sta. Ana and Sta. Ana to Jerome, Agdao.
