The City Government of Davao, on Monday, issued a set of guidelines for the orderly Car-Free Sundays on the Coastal Road, which will start on December 1, 2024.
The Car Free Sundays will be held every Sunday from 4 am until 8 am as part of Davao City’s advocacy to promote an active and healthy lifestyle and enhance the well-being of Dabawenyos.
With this activity, Dabawenyos are allowed to utilize lanes of the entire stretch of the Davao City Coastal Road and its parks for leisure activities.
Running, walking, jogging, cycling are allowed on lanes, while other leisure and fitness activities are allowed in Parks 1 and 2.
To ensure the orderly observance of this activity, the whole stretch of the Davao City Coastal Road’s Northbound Lane (seaside) shall be used for running, walking, and jogging.
Cycling activities, on the other hand, will be done on the whole stretch of the Coastal Road Southbound Lane.
Leisure and other fitness activities are allowed in Park 1 and Park 2 (Bago Aplaya Esplanade, and Gulf view Esplanade). Other fitness activities will be those as allowed by the Davao City Parks System Management Board (DCPSMB).
The designated parking areas for four-wheel vehicles are the parking space across the Esplanade, along the outer lanes from Bago Entrance to Big C of Coastal Road, along the outer lanes from the Ecoland Section of the Davao City Coastal Road to Tulip, and along the outer lanes from Tulip Drive at the Coastal Road Exit.
Meanwhile, the designated parking areas for two-wheel vehicles are the parking space across Esplanade and along the outer lanes from Tulip Drive at Coastal Road Exit.
To ensure comfortable experience for all visitors, bringing in pets along the highway is strictly prohibited. This is to ensure the safety, protection of wildlife, and maintenance of cleanliness.
Ambulant vendors are also not allowed.
Parking in vacant lots is strictly prohibited.
The use of devices that produce light or noise pollution is also not allowed (i.e speakers, laser lights).
Drone operations are not allowed except those that are operated and authorized by the security cluster or the City Government of Davao.
For security reminders, backpacks are discouraged and will be subject to thorough inspections.
Proper disposal of trash shall be strictly observed.
Personnel from the Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO), Davao City Police Office (DCPO), Task Force Davao (TFD) will secure the area and Emergency Medical Services will be stationed in a designated area for immediate response.
Security personnel will be assigned to identify parking areas intersections, and along the bike/run route, with operations coordinated by City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) supported by DCPO.
