Former President Rodrigo Duterte visited on Saturday in the wake of slain Police Staff Sergeant Noel Marundan, who was tragically shot and killed by a suspect resisting arrest in Sitio Alon, Barangay Malabog, Paquibato District on Wednesday afternoon.

Marundan and his fellow police officers were serving arrest warrants against the suspect, identified as Nestor Dabawnon Ansayod, for two counts of murder; kidnapping; serious illegal detention; and robbery.

The former president expressed his condolences to Marundan’s family, recognizing his ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

The former president has long been an advocate for the safety and welfare of law enforcement officers, acknowledging the challenges and dangers that police officers face daily.

He said the death of Marundan has underscored the risks law enforcement personnel face, especially in high-risk operations, as they work to uphold peace and security in the community.

Meanwhile, the former president remains unfazed by threats from certain Congress members to cite him in contempt for not attending the House of Representatives Quad Committee (Quad comm) hearing on his administration’s war on drugs.

Duterte stated that he has no further explanations to provide regarding the drug war from his time in office and lacks adequate funds to travel to Manila to appear before the Quad comm inquiry.
