Baste reminds Dabawenyos of strict enforcement of city’s Firecracker Ban

Two days before Christmas, Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte reminded Dabawenyos to adhere to Davao City’s Firecracker Ban ordinance.

The mayor was referring to City Ordinance 060-02, which prohibits the manufacture, distribution, sale, possession, and use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices within the city.

Duterte emphasized that violators of the ordinance could face penalties such as fines and imprisonment.

“Tuman lang ta’g balaod para man ni sa atong kaayuhan, para ni sa atoang tanan,” he said during his Basta Dabawenyo Christmas Special.

Based on the ordinance, first-time offenders will be penalized with a P1,000 fine or imprisonment of 20 to 30 days or both; second-time offenders will be penalized with a P3,000 fine or imprisonment of one to three months or both; and third-time offenders will be penalized with a fine of P5,000 or imprisonment of three to six months.

These penalties also apply to improvised pyrotechnic devices and will not be limited to firecrackers that use gunpowder.

The ordinance states that improvised pyrotechnics that use lighter fluid or any materials that are combustible and can potentially start a fire are also prohibited.

The mayor encouraged Dabawneyos to celebrate Christmas responsibly.

He said there are plenty of ways to have fun without breaking the law.
