Just do it.
That’s the bold declaration of Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte on Tuesday as he revealed that he really wanted to see how the lawmakers in the House of Representatives (HoR) do their masterplan impeachment proceedings against his sister, Vice President Sara Duterte.
“So do it. Sige mo ug panghasi ana. Ang Presidente naa man na siya sa posisyon ug ang Congress and the Speaker of the House and they are conniving, they have all the resources, so do it,” Duterte said in an interview at the sidelines of the launching of DC.plinado module.
Last week, two ranking House lawmakers urged the chamber to act on the impeachment complaints filed against the vice president, who is facing two impeachment petitions for alleged misuse of confidential funds and betrayal of public trust, as it is mandated by the Constitution.
The mayor reminded that the Commission on Audit (COA) already cleared the vice president. He said the only ultimate goal of the lawmakers was to tarnish the name of the vice president.
“Dugay na looming nga isyu, confidential funds niya (OVP) nga as of now ang opinion sa COA gi-clear nila nga wala ma’y anything anomalous ana. It’s purely political. So, I’d like to see them really actually doing it. Buhata ninyo kay sige mo ug panghadlok dinha ug naga create lang mo ug confusion sa mga tawo para ka tungod I do not know kung unsa gyud ang ilahang goal but ultimately that is to tarnish the name of the vice president,” Duterte said.
The first impeachment complaint was filed by civil society organizations led by Akbayan party-list Rep. Percival Cendaña on December 2, 2024, while the second was filed on Dec. 4, by progressive groups led by Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan).
