Davao City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC) Investor Assistance Servicing Unit Head Christian Cambaya bared that the delegation from the Australian Embassy who visited Davao City and paid a courtesy call to the City Council last week was looking into the business climate and investment opportunities in Davao City.

The Australian delegation was led by Economic Counsellor Luke Villiers.

“Mr. Luke Villiers visited Davao City for the first time to check the city’s business climate as well as business and investment opportunities that Australian companies can consider investing,” Cambaya told Edge Davao.

Cambaya said the Australians are still looking into opportunities and according to Cambaya, DCIPC recommended them to consider investing in the city’s agribusiness and manufacturing industries.

Meanwhile, Villiers told Vice Mayor J. Melchor Quitain Jr. that among the reasons for their visit is to further promote stronger bilateral ties between Australia and the Philippines.

Quitain said the delegation’s visit to Davao City also aims to develop an understanding of the economic developments in Davao City.

On March 2, 2021, the Philippines exported its first frozen durian products from Davao City to Australia wherein two varieties of Davao durian were included in the initial shipment, the Puyat and the Duyaya varieties.

Last year, fresh mangoes from Davao del Sur were also brought in for the first time to Australia, which has very stringent laws on the importation of agricultural products.
