City Health Office (CHO) Tropical Division Chief Melodina Babante on Thursday said 10 barangays in Davao City are currently considered dengue hotspots.

Babante identified the current areas of concern namely Bucana with 10 cases, Buhangin, Calinan, Catalunan Grande, Tibungco Proper, Talomo Proper, Sasa, Maa, Indangan, and Marilog.

Babante reported that from January 1 to 15, 2025, Davao City recorded 141 cases of dengue with one death. Comparing last year to the same period, CHO recorded 225 cases but no deaths.

“As of karon na week kani siya n amga barangays na mention nako ang atong area of focus. So dili man gud siya ingon nga permanente nga barangays ang focus nato. Every week iba iba ang barangays nga naay kaso sa dengue. Unfortunately, last year wala ta’y death, but karon naay isa from Bucana. Ang case niya is from Kidapawan ang bata kaya lang nagbakasyon sila last December sa Davao, sa Bucana, then nag fever siya ug diri naitala ang death sa Davao City,” she said during I-Speak media forum.

Babante said an investigation on where exactly the child acquired the dengue virus is ongoing.

She added that it is the goal of CHO to decrease the mortality cases of dengue in Davao City.

“Bale kung tan-awon nato naga decrease ang cases karon na year of the same period. Continue ang amoang surveillance and monitoring specially sa hotspots barangays katong dili mawala wala sa listahan sa mga barangay nga naay kaso every week specially sa dengue,” Babante said.

Babante said the overall data of dengue cases for 2024, as of December 2024, a total of 7,089 confirmed dengue cases with 55 deaths were recorded in Davao City.

Meanwhile, Babante is encouraging those barangays that still do not have a Mosquito-Borne Viral Disease Task Force to create the task force to help combat the increase of dengue cases in the city.

“Mag Follow-up sa mga creations sa mga barangays katong mga barangays nga wala pa naka create ug Mosquito-Borne Viral Disease Task Force, gina-encourage namo nga mag create na sila as soon as possible. Kasi nakita namo ang impact unsa ka importante ang mga barangays nga naa nay task force kay lesser na lang ang mga kaso sa dengue sa ilaha,” she said.
