Councilor Bonz Andre Militar, chair of the Committee on Information and Technology of the City Council of Davao, announced on Tuesday that the implementation of the digitalization of the Local Civil Registry (LCR) is being eyed to be implemented this year.
The ordinance entitled “An ordinance for the digitalization of the Local Civil Registry of Davao City through the Civil Registration Information System (CRIS) Online and appropriate funds for its implementation” was approved on the third and final reading last month and is awaiting appropriation.
As per the ordinance, the LCR will establish an online registry system for the public to secure pertinent documents.
“By this year ang atong implementation, after budgeting ana, sa Supplemental Budget 1 siguro siya masulod,” Militar said during the Aprubado sa Konseho media briefing.
Militar also said that a P5 million budget will be allotted for the purchase of scanners, computers including firewalls, software development, and other necessary equipment.
Militar haspushed the ordinance after he observed that there were still a lot of documents at the City Civil Registrar’s Office (CCRO).
“Since 1946 na records tanan siya hard copy so we are going to convert it to digital copy using those scanners, and we will upload that to the server. Based on our estimate, a thousand documents per day ang atong pwede ma-register sa ataong cloud server,” he said.
He also said that the new system will shorten the time it takes for partner agencies to request documents from the LCR office by allowing them to access LCR data.
“For example, the Department of Foreign Affairs if mag require sila og birth certificate, no need na sila muadto sa LCR para mupila napud og balik. Diri palang sa DFA mugawas na dayon ang record,” Militar said.
Militar said the city’s Information Technology Center will create the system, making it available to the public via an app or website.
