A total of 78 octogenarians, nonagenarians, and a centenarian from all over Davao City received on Wednesday incentives through the Expanded Centenarians Act at Almendras Gym.
The first batch of eligible and validated senior citizen beneficiaries and family representatives attended the ceremonial giving of the incentives, jointly led by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC).
Of the 78 beneficiaries, 42 are 80 years old, 23 are 85 years old, eight are 90 years old, four are 95 years old, and a 100-year-old.
The areas with the greatest number of beneficiaries are Buhangin District with 23 beneficiaries, followed by Talomo with 19 beneficiaries, and City Poblacion with 13 beneficiaries.
Each beneficiary under 100 years old received a Php 10,000 cash incentive.
Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, in his speech read during the event, extended warm greetings to the first batch of beneficiaries for the expanded centenarian act in Davao City.
“Sa atong mga benepisyaryo kini nga programa usa ka dakong pasidungog alang kaninyo ug nagsilbing pasalamat sa inyong kinabuhi ug sa inyong mga nahimong kontribusyon og sakripisyo sa katilingban sa local nga panggamhanan sa Davao pinaagi sa OSCA ug National Commission of Senior Citizens (To our beneficiaries, this program is in recognition of you and serves as our way of extending gratitude for your lives and for the contributions you made to the city and the local government of Davao, though the OSCA and the NCSC),” he said.
The mayor said that the city will continue to craft more programs that will defend the right and extend the services that match the needs of the senior citizens.
Office of the Senior Citizen’s Affairs Office-In-Charge Lorenzo Borja said that their office has complete data of senior citizens in Davao City. They have a hand in providing the validated number of beneficiaries and submit it under the Expanded Centenarian’s Act.
“Mag-apply sila sa OSCA magpavalidate para ma-requesan sila og budget sa atong National Commission on Senior Citizens (They should apply at the OSCA for validation so that we can request a budget from the NCSC,” he said.
“Magparehistro gyud sila kay ang atoang OSCA Office mao gyud na ang nagahatag og kumpleto nga data, didto sa validation sa qualification niya, ma qualify siya kung naa siya’y OSCA ID kay naka indicate man didto ang birthday naa didto, nakaregister didto pila ang iyahang edad (They should register with our OSCA because we provide the complete data, validates their qualification. They would qualify if they have OSCA ID because it indicates their age),” Borja said, adding that apart from OSCA ID, the applicants should present other accepted government-issued IDs.
