As part of Davao City’s efforts in promoting the overall health of Dabawenyos, the City Government of Davao, through the City Health Office’s (CHO) Dental Division, is celebrating the Oral Health Month.
This year’s theme for the Oral Health Month is “Pamilya Una Kong Dentista: #Ngiting7020.”
Dr. Rowena Go, CHO’s Dental Division Head, said in an interview with the City Information Office that the theme highlights the important role of families in “fostering proper oral hygiene practices and early oral care, emphasizing the importance of preventive care starting at home.”
This is in pursuant to Department Circular No. 2025-0012 released by the Department of Health urging all departments and dental health-related agencies to conduct a series of activities promoting oral health during the Oral Health Month.
This year’s Oral Health Month celebration also further pushed the #Ngiting7020 campaign, a campaign that was started in the previous year.
Go said that this campaign aims to encourage the public to prioritize oral health “with the goal of reaching the age 70 with at least 20 healthy, natural and functional teeth.”
In line with the Oral Health Month celebration, dentists from the CHO’s Dental Division will be in Bunawan on February 13; in Lamanan on February 18; Leon Garcia Agdao on February 19; Lapu-Lapu, Agdao on February 26; and in Cabantian on February 28.
The Dental Division Team, in partnership with the Tzu Chi Foundation, will also be in the Regional Rehabilitation Center for Youth on February 27.
On these days, the Dental Division will be providing Dabawenyos with dental services including check-ups and tooth extraction.
The CHO’s Dental Division will also visit the city-operated daycare centers to provide children with free fluoride varnish application and dental check-ups.
The Dental Division team will also teach children proper oral care and dental hygiene.
Free dental check-ups are also available for pregnant women and senior citizens.
Go also reminded the public to limit the consumption of sticky and sweet snacks; brush the teeth at least twice a day and make it a habit to brush before bed, use fluoridated toothpaste, and to regularly visit the dentist.
Dabawenyos are also reminded that every district in the city has a dentist in the health centers. Should they need dental assistance, Dabawenyos are urged to visit the closest health center in their barangays to schedule their dental check-up.
“Naa ta’y ibot sa ngipon, 100 ang bayad. Tanan health centers naa na siya kung asa sila nga district na-belong dili na sila kinahanglan muadto bisa’g asa kay sa ilahang main health center naa’y ibot didto, i-schedule lang hinoon kay isa ra atong dentist per district (We provide tooth extraction services with a minimal fee of P100. All district health centers provide this service, so there’s no need for them to go to other places. They just have to go to the health centers to schedule for the dental service since we only have one dentist per district),” Go said.
A team of the Dental Division is also present during the Barangay Serbisyo Publiko (BSP) caravans. Dabawenyos may visit their desk to avail of their services for free. CIO
