The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) clarified on Monday that there was no abduction incident that happened in Buhangin last week.

This developed after a certain Ayka Movilla posted online regarding an alleged suspicious incident involving a black van in Purok 8, Barangay Communal, Buhangin, Davao City, on January 26, 2025.

Paki kalat. Daghan salamat,” Movilla posted.

Upon learning of the post, DCPO acting Director Col. Hansel Marantan directed Major Dante Baguio Jr, acting station commander of Buhangin Police Station, to conduct a thorough investigation in coordination with barangay officials.

DCPO reported that the individuals involved, Rica and her sister Rhenda, were interviewed and recounted that while waiting for a tricycle, a black van without a license plate stopped near Rhenda.

According to the report, the driver briefly rolled down the window but quickly left after Rhenda ran toward her sister.

“No suspicious or criminal activity was observed, and there is no evidence indicating an attempted abduction,” DCPO said in a statement.

DCPO also mentioned that further investigation revealed another social media post by the same individual on February 1, 2025, claiming that a female voice was heard calling for help near their residence.

However, according to DCPO, when police checked, there was no suspicious incident happened or individual in the area.

“Police records, as well as those of Barangay Communal, confirm that no reports of a missing person or abduction have been filed in the area,” DCPO said.

Marantan urged the public to report suspicious incidents directly to the nearest police station for proper verification and action.

“Spreading unverified information on social media can cause unnecessary panic, disrupt peace and order, and divert police resources from addressing legitimate concerns. Such acts may also lead to legal consequences under existing laws against the spread of false or misleading information,” he said.

Marantan said to ensure public safety and prevent unwarranted fear, the Buhangin Police Station, in coordination with Barangay Communal, will intensify patrols and monitoring in the area.

“DCPO remains committed to maintaining peace and order in Davao City and encourages everyone to act responsibly when sharing information online. For any emergency or suspicious activity, please contact your nearest police station immediately,” he said.

DCPO has been reminding the public to be mindful of what they share online.
