Despite undercover cops wearing red, DCPO insists they are ‘neutral’

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) acting City Director Col. Hansel Marantan defended a memorandum of the Philippine National Police (PNP) that has leaked on social media ordering police deployed during the campaign rally of the Marcos administration’s Senate slate in Carmen, Davao del Norte on Saturday to wear civilian clothes with a “touch of red” — the administration party’s official color.

The campaign rally was graced by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. attended by supporters who mostly wore red.

Marantan said the circulation of an internal memorandum in social media was unauthorized.

Marantan explained that the memorandum is in compliance to a request from the Police Regional Office 11 (PRO 11) of 55 PNP personnel from the DCPO to augment to the Presidential Security Command (PSG) as inner security during the scheduled visit of the President.

“We emphasize that this deployment is a standard security measure aimed solely at ensuring the security and safety of the President, the event venue, and the public. DCPO upholds its duty to protect all citizens, regardless of political affiliations, and remains neutral and professional in all its operations,” Marantan said in a statement.

Marantan insisted that DCPO remains an apolitical and non-partisan organization committed solely to ensuring public safety and security.

However, he did not comment on why they were asked to wear red — the President’s party’s official color.

He also urged the public to refrain from spreading misinformation or speculation regarding this matter.

“DCPO remains steadfast in its mission to serve and protect the people of Davao City with integrity, professionalism, and dedication,” he said.
