The Department of Social Welfare and Development 11 (DSWD 11) reiterated on Tuesday its non-partisan position amid concerns regarding the presence of politicians during the agency’s payout activities.
This developed after some politicians in Davao City, particularly those running for a position for the upcoming May polls, were seen attending such DSWD activities.
Anne Jickain, Social Welfare Officer IV and Officer-in-Charge of the Innovations Division of DSWD 11, said during the session at the City Council of Davao that the agency remains neutral and does not invite politicians to their events.
“DSWD will remain non-partisan,” Jickain said.
Jickain emphasized that politicians are not allowed to attend DSWD’s payout activities and address beneficiaries, particularly as the election season approaches.
Jickain underscored that DSWD, while it uphold non-partisanship, unforeseen scenarios may arise where political figures appear uninvited.
“They’re not really allowed, and that is why we really stand firm that we are non-partisan. And that is why we strictly adhere to and abide by the prohibitions sa lahat ng activities ng DSWD. Though we cannot really stop them, if ever in that instances, kaya hindi makikita yung presence of the personnel. But we are not inviting them, no invitation. But sometimes in reality we cannot stop them,” Jickain said.
Meanwhile, the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod Party expressed its support for the DSWD’s stance, underscoring the need for genuine public service without political interference.
In a statement, the party stressed that it has always advocated for clean and honest governance.
“We believe social services should not be used as a platform for political gain, especially during the election season. We urge all political aspirants to respect the boundaries set by the DSWD and allow the agency to fulfill its mandate without interference, fostering a fair and equitable distribution of aid to all Dabawenyos,” it said.
