Mati City named finalist for National Gawad Galing Kalikasan Award

The City of Mati has been named one of the finalists in the prestigious National Search for Gawad Galing Kalikasan, a recognition given to outstanding local government initiatives in environmental protection and sustainability.

According to a report from the Philippine League of Local Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PLLENRO), Mati was shortlisted for its flagship program “Mati H20: Highlands to Oceans Biodiversity Conservation.”

The initiative focuses on protecting the city’s diverse ecosystems—from mountain forests to coastal waters.

City of Mati Mayor Michelle Nakpil Rabat expressed excitement over the nomination.

“This is a huge milestone for us. Mati has always been committed to sustainable environmental programs, and being recognized at the national level validates our efforts,” Mayor Rabat shared.

Meanwhile, mining companies operating in Mati continue to fulfill their regulatory obligations.

Dabawenyo Minerals has recently remitted P227,000 in occupation fees, with an outstanding balance set to be settled next week.
Last week, Sinophil Mining also complied with its financial dues, contributing to the local government’s revenue.

Mati’s nomination for the Gawad Galing Kalikasan underscores the city’s commitment to balancing economic development with environmental stewardship.

The winners of the national search will be announced during the PLLENRO 16th National Convention in General Santos City on March with Mati hoping to bring home the award and further solidify its reputation as a model city for conservation.
