Rally for VP Sara’s impeachment staged

Progressive groups and supporters of the impeachment complaints filed against Vice President Sara Duterte staged a rally near the EDSA People Power monument in Quezon City on Friday morning.

Photos and videos of protesters mostly wearing white shirts holding placards calling for Duterte’s removal and chanting “Impeach! Impeach Sara now!” were shared online.

Organizers said around 10,000 attended the rally, but police said the crowd was just around 4,000.

Akbayan Rep. Perci Cendaña, who endorsed the first impeachment complaint against Duterte, said the time has come for the House of Representatives to take decisive action and finally impeach the vice president.

Members of the SARA ALIS (Alliance of Leaders for the Impeachment of Sara) coalition marched near the People Power Monument urging the House of Representatives to act on the complaints filed against Duterte last December.

The vice president is facing three impeachment complaints filed by various groups last year over alleged misconduct and misuse of confidential funds.

As of this writing, the vice president has not yet issued any statement concerning the protest rallies.

Based on the photos online, the number of protesters were dwarfed by a mammoth rally conducted by the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) in support against the impeachment of the vice president on January 13, 2025.

The INC held a simultaneous nationwide peace rally in Manila, Davao City, Cebu City, Iloilo City, Cagayan de Oro City, Butuan City, Pagadian City, Isabela, Albay, Vigan, Puerto Princesa, Ormoc City and Bacolod City.

The nationwide rally gathered members of INC in a unified call for peace, harmony, and social justice.

In Davao City alone, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) reported almost 400,000 attendees were recorded.
