VP Sara innocent, commits no impeachable offense: Maisug

The Hakbang ng Maisug on Thursday condemned the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte saying the vice president committed no impeachable offense.

The vice president was impeached by the House of Representatives on the last day of its session on Wednesday amassing a total of 215 votes supporting the fourth impeachment complaint filed the same day, surpassing two-thirds of the lower chamber’s 306 members.

The impeachment process was moved to the Senate for trial on the same day, however, the body has adjourned until June 2, 2025.

“We believe in her innocence. She committed no impeachable offense to warrant the nullification of over 32 million votes she garnered during the 2022 election,” the group said in a statement released on Thursday.

The group stated that the impeachment proceedings are political and it is obvious that this impeachment is politically-motivated.

“Her rivals are abusing their powers and want her out now and in the coming presidential election in 2028 by unfair and foul means,” it said.

The group also stressed that the impeachment of the vice president is part of the cover-up and distractions to hide the unconstitutional General Appropriations Act 2025.

The group was referring to the alleged “blank” entries in the Bicameral Conference Committee report on the 2025 national budget exposed by Davao City Third District Representative Isidro Ungab.

“We must continue to expose and condemn the massive corruption, the plunder of our coffers, the abuse of power, the repression of our rights, the push for proxy war, and other issues that do not result in the welfare of our people,” it said.

The group lauded members of Congress who, despite tremendous pressures and offers of financial and other rewards, opted not to sign the impeachment.

“They deserve our people’s appreciation. However, some did not sign but only for selfish motives. We condemn them as well for saving themselves from the wrath of the people. Their not signing is deceptive, it is far from defending the Vice President,” it said.
