The Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center (DCDRRMOC) activated the Blue Alert status in Davao City throughout the 88th Araw ng Dabaw celebration from March 1 to 16, 2025.
Also activated is the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to ensure continuous coordination of all efforts, monitor the situation closely, and implement security and safety measures for the safe observance of the event.
Alfredo Baloran, CDRRMO head issued an advisory to barangays, the DRRM council, and the safety and security clusters for the activation of CDRRMC EOC.
According to the advisory, this measure ensures the round-the-clock monitoring of incidents and weather systems and enhances preparedness efforts and other relative undertakings therein.
Baloran cited the Davao SP Resolution “Approving the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Standard Operating Procedure and Guidelines wherein under B.2 or the Emergency Condition of CDRRMC Alert Conditions of CDRRMOC Alert Systems, which states “the emergency condition is declared when a hazard has been assessed to have potential impacts or effect to lives and properties may warrant the need to coordinate the delivery of emergency assistance or support from relevant government agencies.”
The advisory added that the anticipated increase in public gatherings during the celebration is expected, including the scheduled activities in various public spaces.
“Thus raising the alert status to blue is primarily in preparation for any untoward incidents that could occur on the whole duration of the said event which requires immediate emergency medical intervention, heightening the need for proactive disaster preparedness and response and augmentation resources,” it said.
Baloran stated that the deployment of emergency resources is meticulously arranged to guarantee a safe, secure celebration and increased public security.
The Araw ng Dabaw is an annual celebration held to commemorate the founding of Davao City.
The city government of Davao officially kicked off the 88th Araw ng Dabaw during the opening ceremony entitled “Pasiugdang Pagsaulog” at Rizal Park on Saturday highlighting the strength of the Dabawenyos.
