Mae Taripe provided clarification regarding the viral video that circulated on social media on March 16, 2025, which happened in Purok Hinagdan, Napnapan, Davao de Oro. In the footage, the strong gust of wind from the helicopter carrying Noe “Butchoy” Taojo during his visit to the area is clearly seen.
After the video spread, it received mixed reactions from the public—some criticized the incident, while others viewed it as an unintended occurrence.
Taripe addressed the rumors claiming that certain people were supposedly using the issue to put Butchoy Taojo in a bad light. In an interview, she explained that it wasn’t true that roofing sheets (“sin”) flew off or fell from their house.
“Wala pa mahuman ang among kusina. Nagpapanday pa mi, ug temporaryo ra gyud ang gibutang nga mga sin sa atop, wala pa kini malansang,” Taripe clarified.
She added, “Samtang naglaba ko, nadungog nako ang kusog kaayong tingog. Mao na diay to ang helicopter ni sir Butchoy. Nalipay ko, kay first time nakong makakita niya. Nagkuha dayon kog cellphone para mag-video, pero medyo nahadlok sad ko tungod sa kakusog sa hangin.”
Taripe also clarified that some people misinterpreted what she said in the video. According to her, what she actually said was, “Day, hawa dira kay manglupad ng sin diha, basin maigo siya kay naa siya sa sulod sa CR.” This, she said, was not meant to malign anyone but was simply out of concern for the safety of their neighbor.
Due to the incident, Butchoy Taojo personally apologized to Taripe and others affected by the wind from his helicopter. He clarified that he had no intention of causing damage to anyone’s home; his intention was to offer service and help to the community.
As a gesture of help and gratitude for their understanding of the situation, Taojo’s camp provided cash assistance to Mae Taripe to help speed up the construction of their house.
The incident serves as a reminder that even with technology and the best intentions to help, it’s still important to assess and understand events properly—because not everything we see in a video tells the full story.
