City gov’t of Davao builds more inlets against flood

As part of the continuing projects for flood mitigation, the City Government of Davao, through the City Engineer’s Office, is building more inlets on flood-prone roads.

CEO Head Engr. Joseph Dominic Felizarta, in a recent interview with Madayaw Davao, said that they added inlets in addition to those completed in 2024.

“Naa ta’y gipadungag inlets sa roads nato para kung mubaha dali ang siya mu-subside, this is according to the recommendation of the Task Force Drainage and Right of Way (We have additional inlets on our roads so that in case of flooding, [the water] will easily subside, this is according to the recommendation of the Task Force Drainage and Right of Way),” he said.

Felizarta said that in 2024 they completed the installation of inlets in various areas.

“Karong 2025 naay lima ka projects for additional inlets (This year, we have five projects for additional inlets),” Felizarta said.

Based on the CEO data, in 2024, the city allocated funds for the installation of additional inlets, which were divided into five projects.

Out of these five projects, as of February 2025, the additional nine inlets on the Diversion Road – fronting the Panacan Cemetery – were already completed. Also completed were the additional nine inlets on Quezon Boulevard, Barangay 40-D, Población District and the additional 21 inlets at the front of Rancho Palos Verdes, Cabantian-Bunawan, and Barangay Indangan in Buhangin District.

The location of the remaining two ongoing projects for inlet installations are on F. Torres Street fronting RMC, Barangay 7-A in the Población District, and Carlos P. Garcia Highway, Barangay Buhangin Proper to Barangay Cabantian, Buhangin District.

Felizarta said that they have partnered with the Ancillary Services Unit (ASU) to ensure that there are no blockages of the drainage system and that these inlets can fully serve their purpose in mitigating floods. CIO
