The city government of Davao staged a ceremonial switch off at City Hall in observance of Earth Hour on Saturday.
City Hall’s lights were turned off from 8:30 to 9:30 in the evening.
Errol John Denosta, Project Evaluation Officer III of the Davao City Planning and Development Office (DCPDO) said the switching off showed the city’s support in combating climate change.
He also said the ceremonial activity seeks to increase public awareness of environmental sustainability.
“Dili man ni siya pinugsanay but it is highly encouraged to raise awareness about our ongoing fight against climate change. If we talk about climate change, daghan man god siya’g effects sa atoa, especially sa tao, forest, and biodiversity,” he said.
He further stated that Earth Hour will serve as a symbolic act to remind Dabawenyos of the significance of collective action in combating climate change.
Meanwhile, various establishments in Davao City also took part in Earth Hour by switching off their lights.
